BBC Radio 3 presents a weeklong season of concerts and essays celebrating the life and music of Johannes Brahms from St George's in Bristol.

A divisive figure, this series of programmes aims to dispel any negative preconceptions associated with Brahms’ music, instead presenting the composer as the genius he was.

Highlights include performances of Brahms's violin and piano works on Tuesday evening (7.30pm) by Daniel Hope and Sebastian Knauer, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales performing the Academic Festival Overture on Wednesday (7.30pm) and the BBC Singers's performance of the Requiem on Thursday (7.30pm).

Composer of the Week (daily, 12-1pm) will exam the fascinating relationship between Brahms and Robert and Clara Schumann.
