Welsh soprano and baroque performer Elin Manahan Thomas will join fellow musicians in a highly anticipated performance at St George’s Chapel this Saturday for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Born in Swansea in 1977, Elin started singing when she was six. Her music career took off at age 15 when she joined the Swansea Bach Choir, under the mentorship of conductor John Hugh Thomas.

In 2001, she received a scholarship to Clare College at Cambridge University, and continued to pursue postgraduate vocal studies at the Royal College of Music. Since graduating, Elin has sung with a wide range of orchestras, as well as regular performances as a solo artist. She is also the current Artist in Residence at Bangor Music Festival.

Elin has released five solo albums. Her debut album Eternal Light, performed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, was released in 2007. She has sung alongside orchestras such as Royal Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony, the Malaysian Philharmonic and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, to name a few.

In addition to singing, she is a strong advocate of music education, and has run workshops with Eric Whitcare, and masterclasses at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and University of Oxford. She also helps run children’s concerts and operas with the Children’s Music Workshop.

What did Elin have to say about performing at the royal wedding? ‘I’m thrilled to have been asked to sing at such a momentous occasion. It’s always an honour to be invited to be a part of a wedding, and getting to share in a couple’s big day is very special.’
